چکیده

-We present a quantitative method for describing how heterochronic changes in ontogeny relate to phyletic trends. This is a step towards creating a unified view of developmental biology and evolutionary ecology in the study of morphological evolution. Using this representation, we obtain a greatly simplified and logical scheme of classification. We believe that this scheme will be particularly useful in studying the data of paleontology and comparative morphology and in the analysis of processes leading to adaptive radiation. We illustrate this scheme by examples drawn from the literature and our own work. Pere Alberch and David B. Wake. Effect of morphological development on the locomotion function of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niluticus during early ontogeny

This study was conducted to investigate the hydrodynamic parameters and how morphological changes affect them in Oreochromis niloticus at the National Museum of Natural History-Paris in the winter of 2020. To record fish movement, a high-speed camera (1000 fps) with a macro lens was used. The fish trajectory was taken by calculating coordinates of a center point between the two eyes and kinemat...

The effect of food type on phenotypic plasticity of sword tail, Xiphophurus helleri, during early ontogeny

Phenotypic plasticity is an important mechanism of phenotypic adaptation in response to environmental conditions. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of food type on the body shape of swordtail, Xiphoohurus helleri, during early development using geometric morphometric method. For this purpose, two treatments including feed by Artemia naupli and commercial Biomar diet were used i...

Ontogeny, phylogeny, and morphology in anuran larvae: morphometric analysis of cranial development and evolution in Rana tadpoles (Anura: Ranidae).

Comparative studies of chondrocranial morphology in larval anurans are typically qualitative in nature, focusing primarily on discrete variation or gross differences in the size or shape of individual structures. Detailed data on chondrocranial allometry are currently limited to only two species, Rana sylvatica and Bufo americanus. This study uses geometric morphometric and multivariate statist...

[Ontogeny and phylogeny of the skull].

Ontogeny of the skull is primarily determined by genetic factors and is modified during development by environmental factors. The shape of the skull and the direction of its development during intrauterine life are determined by the requirements of the growing brain. After birth, the most important role in modifying the shape of the skull is played by large forces from the stomatognathic system...

Nutlet micromorphology of the genus Marrubium L. and allies and its systematic implication (Lamiaceae: tribe Marrubieae)

Nutlets of 20 taxa of the tribe Marrubieae were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and detailed descriptions of nutlet micromorphological features for all examined taxa are provided. The nutlets exhibited variation in size, shape, color and surface sculpturing. The nutlets shape of most species studied is ovate, but rounded, broad ovate, elliptic, lanceolate, triangular and oblong c...

Spatiotemporal reorganization of growth rates in the evolution of ontogeny.

Heterochrony, evolutionary changes in rate or timing of development producing parallelism between ontogeny and phylogeny, is viewed as the most common type of evolutionary change in development. Alternative hypotheses such as heterotopy, evolutionary change in the spatial patterning of development, are rarely entertained. We examine the evidence for heterochrony and heterotopy in the evolution ...
